Rheda Castle is a former moated castle in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, in the Gütersloh district. Rheda Castle is internationally renowned for its double chapel from the Staufer period and its valuable music library. The music collection has been on loan to the University and State Library of Münster since 1966.

Anyone strolling through Rheda's old town will encounter the past at every turn. The pretty half-timbered houses impressively demonstrate the history of the former residential town, and different architectural styles characterize the image. Symbols of the old craft guilds are depicted on the pavement in front of the historic buildings and these reveal a lot about the craftsmanship of the Middle Ages.

The Emssee borders directly on the historic old town in Wiedenbrück and is the southern entrance area to the Flora-Westfalica Park. It was created as part of the State Garden Show in 1988. Previously there were meadows and pastures here.

In addition to two enchanting historic old towns, sacred art and stunning nature in the city area, Rheda-Wiedenbrück can boast a romantic moated castle. The residence was first mentioned in 1170. Nobleman Bernhard I of Lippe founded the residence around 1200. Located directly on the Ems in Rheda, the palace impresses with its white hall in the Rococo style, a breathtaking castle chapel and the picturesque castle park. The chapel tower, as the oldest part of the complex, also has a special charm. It is not for nothing that the building is one of the most important examples of late romantic architecture in Westphalia.
