The Church of Saint Francis in Gubbio stands in a place deeply connected to the life of the saint and the origins of Franciscanism. This was the site of the Spadalonga family's warehouse, a house-cum-storage where Saint Francis was welcomed after his imprisonment in Perugia, at a time of great physical and spiritual fragility. The hospitality he received in Gubbio played an important role in his spiritual journey, fostering a profound reflection that contributed to his conversion. In this simple and welcoming environment, Francis began to mature his detachment from worldly ambitions. The memory of this episode made the place particularly dear to the Franciscan community. An oratory and then the current church were built on the warehouse. The building retains a sober and intimate character, consistent with the spirit of Saint Francis. The church thus represents a place of living memory, linked to one of the most decisive moments of his life.

One of the examples of fortified Italian architecture from the late Middle Ages.[2] The fortress was built by incorporating an ancient place of worship dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, founded in the Lombard era (8th-9th centuries), called Sant'Angelo di Flea. The Rocca Flea is home to the Gualdo Tadino Civic Museum, which houses the local antiquarium, and its rooms display examples of historic Gualdo Tadino ceramics.

Assisi With its world-famous city walls, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Assisi promises visitors a wealth of culture and history. Shopping and long walks in the old town are also part of Assisi's itinerary. Near Perugia, the capital of Umbria, lies Assisi. The birthplace and place of work of St. Francis and St. Clare, it is a city worth visiting, and not only because of its famous children. Assisi's medieval city center and city walls are so well preserved that they were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. The city walls and the Basilica of San Francesco are therefore popular attractions for travelers. Founded by the Romans under the name Asisium, the terraced layout of the oldest Roman part of the city can still be seen today. The forum, an amphitheater, and the temples of the goddess Minerva (goddess of wisdom) are almost completely preserved. Text / Source: italien.de GmbH https://www.italien.de/staedte/assisi

The Castle stands on a small hill, a short distance from the Chiascio River and along the borders that divided the territories of the Municipality of Assisi from those of Perugia. Built almost entirely of sandstone blocks, it still retains the clearly visible walls that mark its rectangular development, with corner towers. The entrance gate is protected by a mighty tower with turrets, on which the slots for the drawbridge's lowering are still clearly visible. The Castle was mentioned as early as 1114 in documents kept in the Archives of the Cathedral of Assisi. Due to its particular position, it was the scene of power struggles, which continued until the 15th century. In 1479, together with the Castles of Rocca Sant'Angelo, Mora and Beviglie, it was the subject of significant restoration work by the Municipality of Assisi. It can still be admired today in its original structure, only partially altered due to the partial transformation for residential use.
