The gate bears the coat of arms of Vitorchiano with the inscription SPQR (for which the village received permission from Rome). The gate is part of the old wall that extends for about two hundred and fifty metres on the south side of Vitorchiano. The tower above the gate dates from the 13th century. The old city walls (Le Mura Castellane) have several towers, each built of peperino stone and dovetail battlements with loopholes in between.

The dome of the church of Montefiascone is visible from afar and is a beautiful architecture that mimics the dome of St. Peter's which is exactly 100 km away. Montefiascone is on the Via Francigena.

From this panoramic point you can observe Bagnoregio in all its splendor and drama. You can also clearly see the long pedestrian bridge that joins the two tuff hills on which Civita di Bagnoregio and Bagnoregio stand, divided by a narrow gorge.

Montefiascone is a municipality in the province of Viterbo. Its most important monument is the Rocca dei Papi, near which there is a splendid panoramic point where it is possible to admire Lake Bolsena. Montefiascone is famous for its wine of controlled origin called Est! East! East!

Nice to walk through the town. It's something completely different for once. Especially fun for children! Beautiful rural route drove there from Montecchio.
