The forest and wet meadows in this area belong to the Lichtenhagen nature reserve. Until the 1970s, clay was dug out here for the production of roof tiles. After that, the water accumulated in the former clay pits and a diverse habitat with still waters, wet forests and heathland was created. Rare and particularly protected species of birds, amphibians and reptiles live here, such as the black-tailed lizard, sand lizard and moor frog. (Information according to the information board on site). In this clearing, the wooden sculpture of a worker is a reminder of the old, manual mining in the clay pits. On some paths you can clearly see a reddish color, which is due to the clay content in the rock. The wet meadows and heathland are also explained with the above background knowledge.
