We - over-60s with good mountain skills - descended from the Cabanna Cadlimo through the Val Cadlimo to the Lukmanier Pass. The common description that the route is mostly on easy-to-walk paths is a dangerous understatement. It goes over long stretches over boulder fields, which require very good surefootedness and balance. Then down over some smooth rock ledges, which are secured with chains. So it's not all that easy!

The hike from Piora over Lake Ritom to the Cadagna Hut and then over the Passo delle Columbe to the Lukmanier Pass road is highly recommended, especially at this time of year, even if the descent is a bit demanding on your legs. Please note, however: there is no internet connection in the Cadagna Hut, but you will find peace and quiet and freedom from the telephone.

The SBB Ritom power station, built from 1917, offers a fascinating journey on one of the steepest funiculars in Switzerland. The Ritom funicular, which has also been open to tourists since 1921, impresses with a gradient of 87.8 percent. The current carriage for 50 passengers dates from 1985, while the earlier carriage is on display at the valley station in Piotta. The railway runs from May to October and offers spectacular views and historical insights. A must for technology and nature enthusiasts!

Passo dell'Uomo is an Alpine pass in the canton of Ticino, at 2218 meters above sea level. It is a hiking destination that offers views of the Blenio and Piora valleys, and can be reached from the Lucomagno Pass following Val Termine, or from Cadagno along Val Piora.

The Piora Alp is one of the largest mountain pastures in Ticino, with an area of 3500 hectares. Different types of cheeses are produced here and direct sales are available. In the heart of Val Piora, it is surrounded by lush nature, with many lakes and waterways. It is the ideal place to stop during an excursion.
