Provincial Road 87, OTRANTO, LE The Abbey of San Nicola di Casole, built in the year 1098 by Bohemond I and donated to the Basilian monks, became a place of worship of reference for the whole of the South and an important literary center and meeting point between West and East, thanks to the presence of one scriptorium with transcription of texts in Latin and Greek. A true hub of Greek culture in Salento and equipped with a rich library, the monastery was home to free language and literature lessons until 1480, the year in which it was destroyed by the Turks and later abandoned.

Beautiful cycle path with a view of the Otranto canal on clear days. If done downhill you will reach the bottom too soon. It deserves to be expanded and enhanced. Fun to drive.
