This small rest area on the bike path west of Jössen has something special: The view isn't directed toward the Weser River, but toward the largest and oldest stork nest for miles around, the stork's nest perched on the trunk of an old ash tree at Humke Farm. Storks have been breeding here regularly since 1896, and the current, imposing nest has been standing for a proud 90 years (1933). You'll need binoculars or a large telephoto lens to watch the storks "at work." But if you're lucky, they might be active in the meadow in front of the nest. This place is a must-see for all stork lovers!

Beautifully situated between fields and meadows

The Protestant church in the Petershagen district of Windheim is an impressive example of medieval architecture and is considered one of the so-called "Weser churches." Its origins date back to the early 13th century, when it was built as a Romanesque hall church with a west tower and a slightly recessed east choir. In 1769, it was expanded in the late Baroque style, giving it its current cruciform shape. The pointed spire dates from 1858.
