With its 2,920 inhabitants, Petralia Soprana is the highest municipality of the Madonie and one of the highest in the whole of Sicily. The town is included in the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy and was proclaimed "Borgo dei borghi 2018"."

The town is located on a slope between 900 and 1,100 meters above sea level, surrounded by extensive forests of broadleaf and coniferous trees. The municipal territory extends mainly in latitude, from the Madonie watershed in the north to the province of Caltanissetta in the south.

Excerpts from Wiki... "The site on which the town of Polizzi Generosa stands has been frequented since the 6th century BC. It was a prosperous Arab center for almost two centuries. The toponym Polizzi, of Greek origin (at least Byzantine), derives from a compound toponym ending in Polis (city), as emerged from Norman documentation which presents the spellings Polis, Polic, etc., Latinized in Politium and Policium. The name "Generosa" was granted by Frederick II, impressed by the excellent welcome he received. In 1863 with RD n. 1218, this denomination was made official."
