The church of San Carlo Borromeo was built between 1890 and 1905 based on a design by the Milanese architect Carlo Maciachini, but was never completed. It has a Greek cross plan and an octagonal dome with a pavilion vault.

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul (Italian: Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo) stands east above the village of Biasca on a rocky ridge in the Swiss canton of Ticino. It was built between the end of the 11th and the beginning of the 12th century and, with its gallery of wall paintings from different eras, is considered one of the most important Romanesque buildings in Switzerland. Those who take the via San Gottardo in the direction of the village cannot avoid the sight of the two churches. The majestic simplicity of the Romanesque stone church of San Pietro stands in stark contrast to the multifaceted and complex structure of the mighty parish church of San Carlo. As early as 1855, the idea of a new church was born, "which should be more accessible to visitors," which is why construction began between 1890 and 1897, including financial disputes and difficulties. The Milan architect Carlo Maciachini took on the design at the time. The church in Biasca in Ticino is the unique testimony to this architecture with a cross-shaped central structure, which was never completed.
