The television series "Treasures of the World – Heritage of Humanity" introduces culture-loving viewers to several hundred special places on every continent in short segments. Each of these has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The accompanying website explains the highlight highlighted here: "Between the Low and High Tatras lies the village of Vlkolinec in eastern Slovakia. Situated on a high plateau against the magnificent backdrop of the Sidorovo mountain cone, Vlkolinec has remained isolated from the hustle and bustle of the world for centuries. Until recently, no road, no electricity, no water supply, no revolutions have affected the character of the settlement and awakened the enclave from its medieval cultural slumber. This has allowed the town's unique architecture to be preserved: a living and working environment carved entirely from wood, a cohesive ensemble of around 50 buildings." The small village of Vlkolinec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is idyllically situated. The first written mention of it dates back to 1461, and the log cabins are still inhabited today.

Liptovská Mara is the largest water reservoir in Slovakia, located in the Liptovská Basin, between the Tatras and the Low Tatras. It is a popular holiday destination with swimming areas, beaches, water sports and boat trips. The lake is surrounded by asphalt and gravel roads, which are great for cycling trips with a view of the mountains. On the southern shore there is the Havránok lookout - an archaeological site with a replica of a Celtic settlement. In the season, it is worth avoiding weekend crowds - some of the routes run along busy roads. With a bit of luck, we can see a mirror reflection of the Tatras in the water.

The Váh (Slovak: Váh, Hungarian: Vág, Polish: Wag) is the longest river in Slovakia and, after the Danube and the Tisza, the longest river in the Carpathian Basin, with a length of 403 km (other counts 378 km). It rises near the centre of Slovakia in the Low and High Tatras, alternates between broad plains and narrow valleys, circles the high mountain ranges of Slovakia in a large semicircle and flows into the Danube near Komárno (east of Bratislava) (river kilometre 1766).
