Still a great landscape.

You have a fantastic all-round view from NRW's second highest mountain, the Kahler Asten. Spectacular panoramas wherever you look. At the summit, the bizarre landscape of the Hochheide invites you to go hiking and Nordic walking. In winter, endless cross-country ski trails stretch through white snow fields up there. Stay at the Lennequelle and let nature work its magic on you. On a clear day, you can see up to a hundred kilometers into the country from the Astenturm - to the Großer Feldberg in the Taunus, the Wasserkuppe in the Rhön and the Brocken in the Harz. A little confusing, because there is usually an entrance fee to visit the sculpture park. However, the marked Rothaarsteig-Spur Sorper Panoramapfad hiking trail runs directly through the grounds and access is expressly permitted. Nevertheless, the artist would certainly be happy to receive a visit to his workshop (and shop) and a donation of the entrance fee. In my case, the workshop was closed anyway. The outdoor area resembles a state garden show with ingenious metal artworks and a beautiful garden concept. Definitely a worthwhile visit and a rarely advertised attraction in the Sorpetal.

The way through the quarry is not necessarily easy, but very adventurous. You can tell pretty early on whether you dare to walk the narrow path with steps that have been deliberately dug into the ground. There is also a workaround. In any case, you should be sure-footed and have good shoes with you. It goes sometimes over forest floor, sometimes over rock and always along the excavated slate walls. A special experience to work your way up the terraces.
