This very small village is situated on a fertile piece of land on top of a mountain ridge as you drive further into the mountains from Velez Malaga towards Alhama de Granada. The Neanderthals were already settled here, as evidenced by human remains found in the natural caves nearby. This region was and still is very fertile and therefore very worthwhile to settle. The Phoenicians, Romans and later from the 8th century the Moors also knew this. If you visit there you will not see much, much is "new". This is because in 1884 this was the epicentre of an earthquake and considerable damage was caused. The area is beautiful, mountainous, green and with a lot of agriculture. It is certainly worth taking the road from here to the nearby Alhama de Granada, which is certainly worth it. The village itself is small and quiet, with a traditional Andalusian appearance. The white houses, narrow streets and friendly community make it an ideal place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception is located in the Plaza de la Libertad and has a traditional architecture typical of the region. The church was completely destroyed during the 1884 Granada earthquake. The current church was built at the end of the nineteenth century by order of General Narváez.

The Iglesia Vieja de Zafarraya is a neoclassical church designed by the same architect who designed the Iglesia de La Merced in Málaga. Unfortunately, the church was destroyed by the Andalusian earthquake on 25 December 1884. The church had three naves covered with wooden trusses, walls of brick and masonry, and a large central dome. The ruins of the church have recently been restored and transformed into a cultural centre for the community. This monument is now an important tourist attraction and a symbol of local history and culture

The Zafarraya polje is a closed depression with a flat bottom, surrounded by limestone mountains that are strongly karstified. The waters of the polje are absorbed by several ponors (sinkholes), and during heavy rainfall the polje can be temporarily flooded. This makes it an interesting example of karst landscape and geological processes.

Venta de la Leche is a small town and pedanía in the municipality of Zafarraya. It is located in the northwestern part of the comarca of Alhama, close to the border with the province of Málaga. This area is popular with astronomers and astronomy enthusiasts due to its clear skies and minimal light pollution. The surrounding area offers beautiful views. The traditional cortijos (farmhouses) in the area, such as Cortijo Venta de la Leche, offer comfortable accommodation and an authentic Andalusian experience.

The quarry is located next to a private property, ask for permission or border the property on the outside. Maximum respect please. Do not put absurd graffiti. Nothing you leave or put in is going to make the place more beautiful than it already is on its own.

The Inglesia Vieja de Zafarraya, the Old Church of Zafarraya, is a neoclassical building, probably designed by the same architect as the Church of La Merced in Málaga. Before it could be completed and inaugurated, it was destroyed by an earthquake on December 24, 1884. For years it fell into disrepair and was only used as a parking space for vehicles until it was restored in the early 2000s and now serves as a cultural center and for tourist purposes.

The Zafarraya field or plain is a spectacular "polje" formation, a depression of karstic origin, which with an extension of ten square kilometers is one of the largest in the Iberian Peninsula. Cycling around here is really interesting.

The Municipal Museum is located in the building known as "La Cilla", former reservoir of the Dukes of Osuna, Gentlemen of the Villa. The original building dates back to the 16th century, although its noble white stone cover is from the 18th century. Between 1980 and 1985, La Cilla was reconverted as a new Town Hall, adapting the Carrera Street wing to the municipal administration and government units, and allocating the Victoria Square wing for other uses until it became the current headquarters of the Museum in 2004. The "Historical Memory" (Room 1) develops the sequence of Archidona from Prehistory to today. It includes the modules of Prehistory (I-II), Protohistory, Rome, Al Andalus, Christian Conquest, Modern Age (I-II) and Contemporary Age (I-II). The "Collective Memory" (Room 3) develops the sequence of the annual festive and celebratory cycle of Archidona. It includes modules dedicated to: Carnival and Lent Cycle, Holy Week, May-July Cycle, August Cycle (August Fair and Pilgrimage of the Virgen de Gracia), Autumn Cycle, Christmas Cycle and Epiphany. In addition, those cultural events that are becoming traditional are added. https://www.malaga.es/es/turismo/patrimonio/lis_cd-4130/

The 'fields' at this elevation are dominated by rocks, offering a very limited land use, but a beautiful atmosphere. Geologist call this formation "polje": a tectonic, karstic depression, here situated in the limestone massif of Sierra Gorda. The Zafarraya polje is one of the main poljes in the Iberian Peninsula and the largest (22 km²) in the Betic Cordillera. It is situated to the south of the Sierra Gorda de Loja in the western-central part of the Betic Cordillera, in the Subbetic (External Zone). In many ways, this is a typical polje: it is an endorheic depression, a plain with several sinkholes (ponors), the main one situated to the NW, where the waters disappear under the surface to spring up many kilometres away, in the NE of the Sierra Gorda. Karst is created when water dissolves limestone underground, creating fine cracks, underground rivers, and often colapsing caves, leading to depressions in the landscape. Occasionally, the depression can be flooded during heavy rainfall, like in the mid 1990s.
