Schneeburg Castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle on the 516 m above sea level western sub-peak of the Schönberg mountain, in the district of Ebringen in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district of Baden-Württemberg. It lies between Uffhausen in what is now the Freiburg district of Sankt Georgen and Ebringen. -according to Wikipedia-

In addition to a 360° panoramic view (Black Forest with Belchen, Schönberg, Rhine plain, Vosges, Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg), the viewing point on the slightly lower "southern summit" of the Batzenberg at 324m offers two rotating sky loungers and a panoramic panel. The monument from 1976 commemorates the successful rescue of winegrowing in the 19th century (not only on the Batzenberg) by switching to grafted vines with rootstocks from America, which are resistant to phylloxera.

The chapel here commemorates the Passion of Jesus: According to the New Testament reports on the Passion of Jesus Christ, the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem was the scene of two events that followed the "Last Supper": + Jesus' prayer to God the Father, during which the overtired disciples fell asleep; + and then the arrest of Jesus. The apse here does not show one of these two scenes, however, but a PIETA, i.e. a depiction of the Mother of God with her dead son on her lap.

Sturdy shoes and surefootedness are not a bad idea for this passage. It can be slippery here even when wet. The path is narrow and goes up and down again and again. Our boys loved it 😁

Great, varied circular route on winding paths through the forest, with caves, amazing views of the Markgräfler Land, the Vosges, the Black Forest. Stroll through the sea of vines. Climb the Mount of Olives. Relax on various beautiful benches. All this on a manageable route. Definitely recommended if you are ever in the area.
