The viaduct has a total length of 201.30 meters, has 13 arches, and is 18 meters high. It was considered one of the largest railway bridges at the time. The keystone was laid on June 28, 1893, in the presence of the Princely Couple of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and other guests of honor.

The viaduct was built between 1891 and 1893 during the construction of the Arnstadt Saalfeld railway line. It is 201.30 meters long and 18 meters high. The construction costs amounted to 425,000 marks. The viaduct is a massive stone arch bridge with 13 arches. The bridge is an impressive example of 19th century engineering.

The Stadtilm market square is considered the largest market in Thuringia with an area of around 10,170 m². Before it was paved in 1834, the market square consisted of a single swamp area. Since its inception, numerous events such as wool markets, demonstrations and various festivals such as the Stadtilm market festival have taken place here. Even today, you can admire the Methfessel monument, which was inaugurated in 1885 and in the center of which an obelisk is dedicated to the composer Albert Methfessel, who was born in Stadtilm. On the site of the building, which now houses the branch of the Arnstadt-Ilmenau savings bank, the Hotel zum Hirsch stood until 1966, where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe often stayed on his trips to Ilmenau. The municipality of Wolfsberg was founded in 1994 and consisted of the districts of Bücheloh, Grätinau-Angstedt and Wümbach. The name Wolfsberg was derived from the mountain of the same name, at the foot of which all three towns lie. As part of the regional reform, the towns were dissolved and incorporated into the city of Ilmenau in 2018.
