In 1896, clergyman Andreas Schiffmann, a native of Mitterteich, donated this Marian column to the city. The priest was a professor at the Latin school in Haßfurt. The monument is one of the city's most prominent landmarks. The statue is modeled on the Patrona Bavariae in Munich.
