Torre dell'Alto (Torre Santa Maria dell'Alto라고도 함)는 16세기에 지어진 역사적인 해안 경비 초소입니다. 이 초소는 산타 카테리나 지역의 이오니아 해 바로 위에 있는 50미터 높이의 절벽 위에 자리 잡고 있습니다. 또한 포르토 셀바조 지역 자연 공원의 그림 같은 입구를 표시합니다. 이 초소는 1569년 펠리페 2세(카를 5세의 아들) 통치 하에 완공되었습니다. 살렌토 해안에 대한 오스만과 사라센의 침입에 맞서는 대규모 방어 시스템의 일부였습니다. 이 구조물은 현지 건축가 안젤로 스팔레타가 설계했습니다. 높이 14미터의 정사각형 초소는 북쪽의 토레 울루초와 남쪽의 더 작은 토레 산타 카테리나와 같은 이웃 초소들과 지속적인 시야를 유지했습니다. 벽돌 아치를 통해 높은 입구로 이어지는 독특한 외부 계단은 오늘날까지 매우 잘 보존되어 있습니다.

A very popular summer tourist destination and prohibitive to reach in the summer period given the high influx of bathers, it is however a wonderful bay to visit in the low season, when the crystal clear water and the silence of nature takes over.

Cycle path about 4 km long on the Neretina coast. It connects Torre dell'Alto with Montagna Spaccata and the hamlets of Santa Maria al Bagno and Santa Caterina

Torre dell'Alto can be reached either from the Sp 286 by taking the entrance to Portoselvaggio di Villa Tafuri and immediately turning left. After 300 meters of white road and crossing the puneta you will reach the tower. Or from the seafront of Santa Caterina reaching the last roundabout. From here you go up on mostly trekking routes suitable for expert bikers. This last route is currently closed due to the road being closed due to the risk of landslides
