The Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione is located just outside the thirteenth-century walls of the town, in the southwestern part of Todi, and is one of the finest examples of Renaissance art in Umbria.

To get to Todi there is the possibility of taking the funicular which leaves from the car park at Porta Orvietana and reaches the top of the historic center to the terrace surrounded by the breathtaking views of Umbria. Tickets can be purchased from the car in the car park.

Porta Perugina (facing the direction of the Umbrian city) is a solid medieval bastion on two levels and is part of the third and final circle of the walls of Todi, built around 1244.

The construction of the Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione began in 1508 and was completed after a hundred years. It is considered one of the symbolic buildings of Renaissance architecture.
