Hidden in the southern part of the labyrinth of streets of Páno Léfkara is the magnificent church of Timiou Stavrou (Holy Cross Church). It dates back to the 13th century, and some of the frescoes inside date from 1760.

The abandoned monastery of Profitis Ilias near Lythrodonta is picturesquely situated on a hill in the Kionia mountains. Unfortunately, the buildings are no longer used or inhabited. However, there is a picnic area and a drinking fountain.

The village of Mathiatis in 1878 became the first headquarters of the English command; today all that remains of that period is the small abandoned and forgotten cemetery in which the British servicemen are buried. From the road you have to go into the field, the position of the cemetery can be guessed because in the middle of the land there is a kind of flowerbed full of trees, surrounded by a small, chipped wall.

A week Cyprus was on our to do list. Since we had a rental car, we were able to explore the island well. We also passed through this village in search of geocaches. A stop is worthwhile here. Time has stood still here...

As you walk through the narrow streets, the village tells of its history - the silver and embroidery crafts. Taverns invite you to have a coffee, and you're sure to find one or two souvenirs in the shops.

Up to seven people still live here. The stop is worth it, in the tavern you can eat halloumi cheese and fresh olives, then a small tour of the abandoned village, which has stories to tell. Former wine-growing region: people lived and worked in the houses, pressed grapes with their feet and stored wine.
