A well-restored and well-maintained castle ruin. Everything is secure, the tower is accessible via a staircase and there is even a toilet. The view from the tower is very beautiful.

A terrible story: The factory facilities in Margarethenholz in Mühlhausen's city forest were built in 1934 with funding from the Reich Defense Ministry. The factory consisted of several ground-level buildings with basements and flat roofs covered in plants and was surrounded by a 2.5 m high concrete wall. Initially, local skilled workers were employed, and later mainly Ukrainian and Polish foreign or "Eastern workers" as well as Jewish forced laborers from Poland and Hungary (from the Buchenwald concentration camp). After the end of the war, around 1,700 Soviet Army soldiers were stationed there. The factory facilities were blown up in 1947. Ruins and debris of the buildings and the surrounding wall have been preserved to this day under the ash forest that has emerged.

There is also a rest area there. There you can take a break and look at the three sequoias.

Haineck Castle, built around 1392, which is probably one of the last medieval castles built in Thuringia, was set above Nazza, about 1 km north of the village, on the tongue of a Hainich mountain range, Many encounters take place in the old walls today. On Ascension Day, young and old make a pilgrimage to the castle ruins to celebrate the Ascension Day service, which has become a tradition. Bridal couples say yes to each other several times and families spend entire weekends here with their children. You sleep in tents and cook at the campfire - experience pure nature - all this is possible today with prior agreement in the old castle ruins of Haineck. Between 1911 and 1968, the “Vogteier Bimmel” railway crossed the Hainich National Park. There was a train stop in Heyerode. You can still admire the wonderful, colorful old train station there today. There is now a country inn with overnight accommodation: https://www.landgasthof-hainich.de.
