Beautiful ride not technical at all a couple of hours enjoying the lake

Always busy down here. At peak times, you'll be luck to get a parking spot along Glebe road. But there's always plenty of parking in the long stay further along the road. Beautiful scenery no matter the time of year.

The Windermere West Shore gravel trail offers a peaceful, scenic route along the western edge of Lake Windermere. It’s mostly gravel, making it ideal for hybrid or mountain bikes. The trail passes through lush woodland and open views of the lake, perfect for spotting wildlife and enjoying nature. You'll find several spots to rest and picnic.

Windermere ferry is closed for maintenance

If you are using the little ferry to cross Windermere, be aware it is card payments only, £2 for cyclist.

The ferry service takes 10 minutes, it constantly runs back and forwards over to the west side of Windermere. MTB riders were on both crossings I done in early February 2024. Grizedale Forest area is on the west side

The Windemere Ferry carries people between the eastern and western shores of the lake. The crossing takes around 10 minutes and boats leave generally around every 20 minutes. You can take your bicycle over with you for a small additional fee. Beware you maybe attacked by swans or geese :)

Great bay to get a boat on for a trip or hire one. There are also lots of lovely shops around

Payment is now card only due to Covid restrictions. Also, you must wear a face covering whilst on the ferry.

It’s always a gamble as to whether it’s open or not. Check Twitter as this seems to get updated regularly. It's a great way to see the lake and its surroundings from a different perspective.
