A nice place to enjoy a leisurely drink of wine.

Also unfortunately not in the associated Schloss Schänke (outdoor tea terrace on the Havel). No dogs allowed.

Nice to look at. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed, not even on sections of the Fontaneweg.

The sculpture directly on the banks of the Havel near Plaue Palace is the work "Mit Fontane zu Tisch" from 2019 by Jessica Dörhöfer. The work probably depicts Theodor Fontane and the landowner Carl Ferdinand Wiesike, whom he visited at least once, often several times, over many years to philosophize with him over a good wine.

It is not known whether the terrace was planned as a viewing platform or as a shooting range. First it was erected before 1880 without the two reinforced end bases and without the two animal sculptures. From 1911, Hans Graf von Königsmarck had the terrace converted into a clay pigeon shooting range.

It is not known whether the terrace was planned as a viewing platform or as a shooting range. It was initially built before 1880 without the two reinforced end bases and without the two animal sculptures. These were only added later, when Hans Graf von Königsmarck had his hunting experiences in what was then English Kashmir commemorated in the form of the two animals he killed on a hunt in the Himalayas in 1909, a red bear and a markhor. The count probably had the terrace converted into a clay pigeon shooting range from 1911 onwards. Two launchers were installed in front of the hatches on the building, and shooting took place from above in the direction of Lake Plauer. The bases were extended and the concrete animal figures were placed on top. Source: https://www.plauehavel.de/sehenswertes/plauer-fontaneweg/tontaubenschiessstand/

"Happiness, from your thousand lots, / I choose only one: What is gold? I love roses / and the simple ornament of flowers. And I hear the rustling of the forest / and I see a fluttering ribbon - Exchanging eye to eye looks, / and a kiss on your hand. Give take, take give, / and the wind caresses your hair, Ah, only that, only that is life / where heart meets heart." (Theodor Fontane)

The historic baroque castle with its numerous outbuildings is in the most beautiful location, directly on the Havel and on the Plauer See. The building is in poor condition and needs extensive renovation. Nevertheless, a visit is worthwhile, a small restaurant invites you to linger and then take a tour through the castle park in the footsteps of Fontane.

The castle park emerged from a landscape park that was laid out in the mid-19th century by the then Count von Koenigsmarck and shaped an older baroque complex. The originally larger "Tiergarten" still extended into the area of today's city park further south and west along the banks of the lakes

From here you have beautiful views of the Plauer See, which is part of the lake district in Brandenburg an der Havel, which includes the Plauer, for example, the Quenzsee, Breitlingsee, Mösersche See and Wendsee. The Havel flows through it and covers an area of around 640 hectares. Its maximum depth is given as 6.7 m. The name of the Plauer See is derived from the Plaue part of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel. The name of the town probably comes from the old Polish plavati, which translates as raft, to flood. The formerly independent fishing town is located in the northwest of the lake. On this bank, at the outflow of the Havel, is Plaue Castle with its park. The lake area of the Plauer See lies to the west of the core city area of Brandenburg an der Havel in the Niederhavel area, but is strictly speaking part of the middle Havel section. In the east, the Plauer See begins on the Enge to Quenzsee. In the southeast it is bounded by the Wusterau peninsula. The Plauerhof residential area is to the north. In the northwest, the Havel leaves the Plauer See in the direction of Rathenow. The entire north-western bank is formed by the Plaue Castle Park. In the west, the Plauer See merges into the Großer Wendsee before the Seegartenbrücke between the Brandenburg districts of Kirchmöser and Plaue. The southern bank is occupied by the districts of Kirchmöser West and Kirchmöser East. The Plauer See is part of the Lower Havel waterway federal waterway with waterway class IV, for which the Spree-Havel waterways and shipping office is responsible. The lake is fished intensively by Plauer fishermen as part of traditional commercial fishing. Many bank areas are therefore equipped with fish traps. Many water sports enthusiasts use the water as a field of activity. The Kirchmöser power plant takes cooling water from the lake. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plauer_See_(Brandenburg)

Today it is a bit run down, but you can still guess why Fontane loved being here and calling this place “a real castle”. After all, there is a new tour through the palace and park with lots of information about the writer.
