History The fishing village was founded in 1908 after the construction of the new Banter sea dike to extend the naval port to the south. Simple extended families from the Banter workers' settlement mainly fished here as a hobby, to earn extra money or to cover the food needs of the often large families (5-10 children). The initially simple wooden huts with coal stoves served as a starting point for fishing with small rowing boats on the Jade Bay. In addition, traps were set up in the gullies of the mudflats in front of the village for catching grenades. The fish were slaughtered, cooked, fried and smoked immediately after the catch. During the work to raise the dike in 1982, the fishing huts that were originally firmly anchored in the foot of the dike had to be demolished for reasons of dike safety. Instead of permanent fishing huts, paved parking spaces were integrated into the dike, on which today's mobile fishing huts stand during the season from April to October.
