An informative display panel tells the story of the region's water supply: Meinerzhagen and the surrounding, growing industrial areas urgently needed a reliable drinking water supply at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, as drawing water from rivers like the Ruhr (which also served as a sewer) was becoming increasingly problematic. The construction of the Fürwigge Dam was a response to this rising water demand. The dam was built between 1904 and 1908 by the Ruhr Dam Association (today's Ruhrverband). It was one of the first dams in the region constructed according to the advanced Intze principle.

The Fürwiggertalsperre is the highest drinking water dam in the Sauerland. The circular route is 4 km long and is asphalted throughout. Low gradient and no traffic. Quiet, occasionally you can hear a plane. Fantastic view. Pleasure for the soul.
