The History of the House The earliest construction of a manor house is believed to have occurred shortly after 1342, i.e., after the Haller family acquired the village. The dwelling, with a kennel and a moat, is mentioned in 1425. In the First Margrave War, Kalchreuth is also said to have been burned down in 1449. The main building was subsequently rebuilt. In 1533, Jobst IV Haller zu Hallerstein acquired the manor house as sole property. In 1856, the Haller family sold the property to master carpenter Friedrich Woelfel. Dionysius Wölfel sold the castle to Wilhelm and Katharina Schenk in 1907 for 152,000 marks. They received permission to operate a restaurant in 1911. The restaurant was continued by the Scheer family until 2015. The Castle Stables We have absolutely no precise information about when and by whom the castle stables were built, or in particular, how they acquired their current form. We first learn of its existence in a document from the year 1425 in the following words: "The dwelling, together with the moat and the little garden there, which the lot had made, and also the stable there, and church rights should be undivided."
