Hallstadt is simply fantastic. A detour here is always worth it.

East side of Lake Hallstatt from Bad Goisern to Hallstatt a great bike path in beautiful nature. From Hallstatt on the west side back not recommended. Extremely busy federal highway. Better to go back the same way on the east side.

Hallstatt is a market town on the western shore of Lake Hallstatt in Austria's Salzkammergut. Cafes and shops are housed in the 16th-century Alpine-style lanes and houses. The Salzbergbahn takes you to the Salzwelten, a former salt mine with an underground salt lake, and a viewing platform above Lake Hallstatt. In the west, a path leads into the Echerntal with glacial potholes and the Waldbachstrub waterfall

A really nice bike path. Just don't drive on the west side, it's very dangerous. Whether you have to go to Hallstatt is up to you. One look is enough for us.
