Park at Rhyslyn and use the cycleway to Afan trails as a useful warm up before hitting the climb or Penhydd or Y Wal

Margam is a beautiful country park estate in Wales. This viewpoint in the park offers excellent views over to Devon, Somerset, the Gower peninsular and the Vale of Glamorgan.

You can enjoy lovely views of the town and Afon Valley from this high up viewpoint on Pontrhydyfen Viaduct. The viaduct itself was build in 1898 by the Port Talbot Railway.

Afan forest bike shed bike shop - great shop with bike rental, kit and other supplies. Also has a bike wash on site.

Not necessarily a highlight but key to know. There’s male, female and disabled toilets as well as paid showers. There’s also outside sinks with fresh running drinking water to refill bottles. Recycling bins also in the car park. Car park has contactless payment options.

This is Pont Melin-Fach. Pont, means bridge in Welsh, and here is a lovely stone bridge at the bottom of Heol Calch. This is a very popular picnic spot, as there are a few benches here. It also marks the end of the official waterfall walk along the Afon Nedd (River Neath). You can still walk higher up the river, where there are nice parts of the river still to see, but the best is behind you.

Check out the Afan Valley Bike Shed - great helpful staff and they sell a selection of souvenirs - tees, hoodies, mud guards & stem caps (always good to support the local shop).

Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre is the main starting point for walking and mountain bike trails in Afan Forest Park. There are four mountain bike trails and a skills area for less experienced riders. The walking trails range from a short level route along a former trackway to a strenuous seven mile walk along a ridgetop with panoramic views. The car park and visitor centre are managed by Neath Port Talbot Council and are home to the South Wales Miners’ Museum, a café and a bike shop.
