The tower was built for the 2024 State Garden Show. Its unique shape and lightness rival the view that can be enjoyed after climbing 113 steps to the top. Benches and surrounding areas invite you to linger. A large wooden cow will accompany you.

With the 22-meter-high observation tower, built in 2024 for the Baden-Württemberg State Garden Show, the city of Wangen, as the client, and the University of Stuttgart (research division for Integrative Computational Planning and Construction for Architecture) entered new territory. The tower consists of a wooden structure made of twelve-centimeter-thin, curved panels. These are created by gluing moist wooden slats together. During the drying process, the panels warp into their intended shape. Recycled concrete was used for the foundation. And the way to the top leads via a 113-step steel spiral staircase. From the very top, there is a unique panoramic view of the Allgäu Alps.
