Located on the Three Rivers Trail between Marktzeuln and Marktgraitz

Originally (1419), there was a fortified residence on the site, belonging to Michel von Schaumberg, which he held as a fief from Burgrave Johann III of Nuremberg. In 1499, Hans von Schaumberg sold the property to Baron Heinz von Redwitz. In 1563, his successors built a new residential building, the "New" or "Upper" Kemenate, above the existing house on the hillside. To distinguish it, the old building was henceforth called the "Old" or "Lower" Kemenate.[3] From 1568 to 1595, the New Kemenate was temporarily owned by the Barons von Wiesenthau, until it was repurchased by Georg Wilhelm and Wolfgang Heinrich von Redwitz. Just a few years later, in 1625, Wolfgang Heinrich sold the New Kemenate to Hans Heinrich von Künsberg. His son, also named Hans Heinrich, purchased the Old Kemenate in 1691. The Künsberg family now owned not only the nearby Tüschnitz moated castle, but also the entire Nagel estate.[3] In the following decades, the new owners connected the old and new buildings with a masonry structure, expanded them into a castle-like complex, and surrounded them with a wide moat. The dampness on the hillside apparently caused irreparable damage to the structural integrity of the New Kemenate (a type of fortified residence), so the building had to be demolished in 1859. Excavations in 1963 uncovered the 16th-century pile foundations.[4] In 2008, the castle passed by inheritance from the Barons von Künsberg, who still own Oberlangenstadt Castle, to the Vormbrock family.

A bridge over the Rodach river, with signs encouraging physical activity. Even if you don't feel like doing that, you should definitely climb up to the platform. The view is absolutely worth the small effort.
