Royal College of the Immaculate Conception of Cabra was founded in 1679 when the testamentary provisions of its founder Luis de Aguilar y Eslava were fulfilled . In 1685 King Charles II granted it the Royal Decree of Erection and in 1692 it began its academic activity. Its first Constitutions date from 1700. From 1777 to 1823, the Royal College of Higher Studies of Cabra was incorporated into the Imperial University of Granada , a privilege granted by King Charles III through a Royal Provision; improving its presence and doubling the number of students. But shortly after, the College was faced with the most difficult and sad period in its history. Dismissed by laws referring to public education, it was closed for five years. On the verge of the sale of its assets, the Board of Trustees fought until it was reopened in 1827. Fortunately, the Minister of Public Instruction, ignoring the interested requests for its disappearance, contributed to the issuance of a Royal Order in 1828 by which it would become a College of Humanities . In 1846 the Royal College was incorporated into the University of Seville , and the following year, 1847, a Royal Order of Isabel II would definitively transform it into an Institute of Secondary Education . In this way, the city of Cabra managed to have one of the first institutes in Spain. In 1877, Alfonso XII declared it a Provincial Institute , incorporating the schools of the neighboring towns. Among the different collections, objects and exhibition works that the Aguilar and Slava Museum offers stand out those referred to the Natural Sciences to accommodate pieces, objects and remains supplied by Botany, Zoology, Mineralogy, Petrology, Geology or Paleontology.
