The Schenkenturm tower is barely visible in summer due to the abundance of greenery in Schöntal Park.

The Schörnborner Hof was built between 1673 and 1681 according to the designs of the Mainz Capuchin priest Mathias von Saarburg. It served as a city palace for the Mainz High Court Marshal and Vicedom, Melchior Freiherr von Schönborn, and his wife Sophia von Boineburg. The Counts of Schönborn provided two archbishops of Mainz and, from 1672 to 1772, three vicedoms, the highest sovereign officials in Aschaffenburg. The city purchased the property in 1832. It initially served as a court and administrative building for the Court of Appeal. From 1875 to 1906, students from the Royal Women's Educational Institution were housed here, along with a teacher training college. The Municipal Savings Bank occupied parts of the building from 1913 to 1926. During the First World War, the Schönborner Hof served as a military hospital and dairy. From 1929 to 1951, the city post office and elementary school were housed there. The baroque complex was severely damaged during World War II. After reconstruction, it housed various government agencies, including the police, the criminal investigation department, the registration office, and the passport office. From 1958 to 1968, the Schönborner Hof housed students from the Oberrealschule (high school), before the Natural Science Museum moved in in 1970. From 1968 to 1989, one wing housed classes from the Brentanoschule. After a complete renovation, the city and monastery archives also found prestigious accommodation in the building in 1982. The Schenkenturm, also known as the Witches' Tower or Watchtower, was built in the 15th century at the same time as the city wall. Dietrich Schenk von Erbach, whose family coat of arms is found in the wall, had it built as part of the city's expansion. Historically, the tower was probably nameless, as there were more than 15 city towers in Aschaffenburg, most of which had no name. In the resolution proposal submitted to the Planning and Transport Senate, the city administration chose the name "Schenkenturm," based on the builder and his coat of arms. The tower was also popularly known as the "Ghost Tower" or "Brewery Tower." The Schenkenturm has a square base and is three stories high.
