The former Reformed Church is a hall church built in 1719, partly with material from its predecessor, and is located on a hill. It has furniture from the 18th century, such as a pulpit, lecterns and a chandelier. It once housed a clock museum. Until 2021, it housed the Dutch roof tile museum. Since 2024, it has been used as an event location.

The St. Hubertus Church from 1873 was designed by Arnoldus van Veggel and is a good example of early neo-Gothic. Before that, Catholics attended church in a barn church, which was regularly flooded. During the Second World War, the church was damaged, but the Allies caught the Germans, who wanted to blow up the tower, in time, so that the tower was preserved. The organ dates from 1880 and was built by the Gradussen brothers.

This church has a tuff tower that originally dates from the 12th century and was built in Romanesque style. The associated church was a chapter church from 1436 to around 1572-1599. Eight prebends were associated with the secular chapter.[1] In 1659, a new church was built against the tower, after its predecessor was destroyed by fire during the Eighty Years' War. In 1860, this was in turn replaced by a brick, wide hall church with a five-sided closure, and vaulted by a striking net vault, made of stucco. The pews, including the lord pews, are still arranged as they were at the time of construction. The neo-Gothic pulpit also dates from this period. The organ is from 1889. The window traceries are rich in detail. In 1963, the medieval tower was restored to its original form. In 2006 the building became a PKN church.

The council and polder house (Hogestraat 26) is an L-shaped building from 1891, built in a rich neo-Renaissance style and designed by J. Groenendael. The basement housed the prison and the fire engine. The council chambers for both the Mayor and Aldermen and the Polder Board were located on the first floor. We regularly walk through Alem and first there was a beautiful cart wheel and insect hotel to admire near the De Maas marina. Then beautiful boxes appeared in the trees along the Steeg (woman, man and child). And as if things couldn't be more beautiful, a beautiful insect hotel was built on the clog path and not so much later a beautiful wooden work of art depicting father, mother and children with 'the living room' in their vicinity. According to a resident of Alem, all this was made by residents of Alem... no work of art can compete with this!!

In the 1860s, the poor German Wouter Schiffer came to the Netherlands in search of work. He ended up in Engelen in Brabant, married the eldest daughter of the schoolmaster there and quickly managed to climb the social ladder. For example, in 1774 and 1780 he was named as representative of the Lord of Empel in the leasing and sale of land. In 1777 and 1781 Wouter Schiffer was even listed as mayor of the manor of Empel and Meerwijk. In 1792 he bought “a considerable house” on the Maasdijk in Alem for 2020 guilders. In the floodplains of the dammed Maas near Alem in Gelderland, a burial mound is hidden between shrubs and trees on De Steeg. Not a prehistoric burial mound, but one that was constructed in the nineteenth century for the family of Cornelis Schiffer, the founder of Steenfabriek Rossum. In 1934, the mill of miller H. Kosters was dismantled after a fire. The miller leased the mill from the Maatschappij tot Nut van 't Algemeen in Zaltbommel. This mill stood on a summer dike along the Waal, the Molendijk, about 500 meters north-west of the village. Originally there was a post mill on this site, which according to a plaque in the existing remnant of the octagon was replaced in 1801 by a new mill. The first stone for this mill was laid by Jan Ambrosius, together with his sister. Jan Ambrosius was born in 1788 or 1782 in Veen in Brabant as the son of Willem Ambrosius and Adriane Blankers.
