A large war memorial stands in the Neukloster Forest. Each fallen soldier has their own small memorial stone inscribed with their name, year of birth, and date of death. A bench is available for quiet reflection and mourning.

Several of these memorial plaques are located at the Neukloster War Memorial, bearing the dates and names of the fallen soldiers. 1914–1918 1939–1945

The Neukloster Forest is a beech forest with trees up to approximately 200 years old. Originally used by the monastery for which it is named, it is home to several, sometimes rare, animal and plant species. A short hike of about 4.5 km through the Neukloster Forest is wonderful. From the Pfingstmarktplatz parking lot, the W4 hiking trail leads into the forest, passing historical and archaeological treasures such as burial mounds and wayside crosses. Follow the signs to the Friedwald parking lot and turn left there to return to the Pfingstmarktplatz parking lot. Enjoy a beautiful hike here! 🚶🏼‍♀️🚶💚

A hike along the Este dike is highly recommended: a beautiful circular walk. Spring or autumn are best. In the height of summer, there's no shade. You'll be treated to various views of the surrounding nature, the Este River, and the thatched-roof houses. There are plenty of benches for taking a short break. The lock house is also very interesting and worth a visit 👍🏼.

In August 2017, a 1:3 scale model of a Hanseatic cog, built from Corten steel according to original plans, was erected on the roundabout at Estebrügger Straße. It is approximately nine meters long and has a mast about six meters high. The cog displays the nine coats of arms of Buxtehude on its hull. The sail is adorned with both the Hanseatic cross and the logo of the Hanseatic city. A truly beautiful sight. The cog combines Hanseatic tradition with the modernity of the city. A visit is highly recommended 👍🏼.

The port of the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude is the navigable endpoint of the Este, a tributary of the Elbe. Mills and factories once thrived there. The port is the heart of the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude. Until the 19th century, it provided an important connection for long-distance traffic via the Lower Elbe. Industry was established in Buxtehude because of the port. The railway, which began operating in 1881, and later the road connection, displaced shipping traffic in Buxtehude. Around 1980, part of the port was built over with the harbor bridge. Nevertheless, historical buildings have been preserved, such as the customs office built in 1870 at Moortorstraße 2, which is very beautiful to look at 👍🏼. The waters of the Este once powered the Flethmühle (Fleth Mill) in the city center of Buxtehude. Below that point, the Fleth was tide-dependent and navigable for barges of up to 100 tons until 1972.

The Hare and Hedgehog Fountain is a bronze and stone sculpture by the artist Fritz Fleer. It symbolizes the race between the hare and the hedgehog, which, according to legend, took place on the Buxtehude Heath. The hare runs as fast as he can, but the hedgehog is already there. How can that be, wonders the hare 🐰. Almost everyone knows the fairy tale of the hare and the hedgehog. Many associate it with the town of Buxtehude on the Este River. The story by the local poet Wilhelm Schröder has earned Buxtehude the nickname "Fairy Tale Town." A sculpture commemorates the race of these two mismatched runners 🦔.

The Flethanlage is considered to be the oldest artificially created harbor within a city in Northern Europe and still appears largely as it was built over 700 years ago.
