The cemetery, which was established in 1825, was built where, according to tradition, the reformer Heinrich von Zütphen was executed in 1524 after being abducted from Meldorf and a mock trial. The old part of the cemetery is surrounded by a row of linden trees and is divided into four areas by two linden tree avenues. At the intersection of the avenues there is an obelisk as a memorial to Heinrich von Zütphen. Nearby there are older gravestones and a split boulder that is said to stand on the site of the pyre. The St. George fountain on Heider Südermarkt was created in 1989 by sculptor Siegfried Assmann. It shows the figure of St. George killing the dragon. Eight relief panels contain depictions of Heider and Dithmarscher history. The fountain is 5 meters high, 4 meters wide and has 3 levels. The dragon lies defenseless on its back with its back arched, its legs stretched up. On its belly stands the brave warrior, confident and victorious, thrusting his long lance into the dragon's open mouth. The arrangement of the elements, the dragon below, the leaning body of the warrior above and the thrusting lance, creates a balanced balance that underlines the confidence of the fighting man. In 1435, a chapel dedicated to Saint George (Low German: St. Jürgen) was built in Heide. When Heide was conquered by royal Danish and ducal troops during the Last Feud in 1559, the church burned down completely. Shortly afterwards, a new church was built on the old foundations, which was consecrated in 1560. This church has essentially survived to this day, although it has undergone some changes.

Saint George sits enthroned on the bronze fountain at Südermarkt. St. George is Heide's coat of arms figure and patron saint. Eight relief panels on the fountain tell stories and legends about Heide and Dithmarschen.

The Heide shopping street Friedrichstrasse was already there in 1900. It leads directly to St. Jürgen Church and the market square and is still popular today. There are numerous shops and boutiques that invite you to shop.

With almost 47,000 square meters of undeveloped space, it is the largest market place in Germany. As early as the 16th century, traders came together there every Saturday for a weekly market.
