A row of posts in the water reduces wave action in the shore area of the nature reserve and promotes reed growth in the shallow water. Cormorants like to dry their wings here, and various species of gulls can also be found here. Overall, the Dümmer, with its surrounding meadows and pastures, is one of the most important habitats for animal and plant species in Lower Saxony. Bird species that have long since disappeared elsewhere still find suitable habitats here. Unfortunately, most of the paths here are often completely overcrowded. However, in January, with bright sunshine and sub-zero temperatures, I was able to watch a beautiful sunset from here almost undisturbed.
