It stands in one of the most beautiful spots in Bad Nenndorf's spa park: the small castle – built in 1806 in the Neoclassical style. Initially, the building served as the summer residence of Landgrave Wilhelm I, the future Elector. However, just two years later, King Jérôme moved in. Napoleon's brother subsequently held many lively celebrations here – earning him the nickname "King Merry." From 1866 onward, the rooms served as lodgings for prominent spa guests. In 1891, the facade was given a triangular gable, and the romantic attic rooms disappeared. In the following years, several reading and writing rooms, a library, and a small museum were created on the ground floor. Today, the small castle can be described as a "house for special occasions": Couples can exchange vows in style in the specially furnished wedding room – and then celebrate extensively on-site. The building not only houses a café but also festive rooms that can be rented exclusively. And those who wish can spend truly special nights in the two double rooms or the suite on the upper floor – for example, after readings or classical concerts that regularly take place in the garden hall. Outside the small castle, by the way, stand two old stone bathtubs. They are relics from the 18th century – the time when bathing began in Nenndorf. Allegedly, there were once six such tubs. The 2020 Children's Forest in Erlengrund is a prime example of practical environmental and climate protection, as well as community engagement. In the heart of the natural Erlengrund, a place was created in 2020 where children could actively take responsibility for nature and simultaneously set a sustainable example for the future. As part of the project, children, together with their parents, educators, and supporters, planted numerous young trees. Each planting symbolized growth, hope, and the conscious stewardship of the environment. The Children's Forest was intended not only to contribute to reforestation but also to convey to the young participants the importance of forests for climate, biodiversity, and quality of life. Erlengrund provided an ideal location for this: The natural surroundings made ecological connections directly tangible and created an open-air learning space. Planting and caring for the trees themselves fostered a special emotional connection to nature that extends far beyond the day of the project.

The Erlengrund (Alder Grove) was created as a green corridor between the Nenndorf spa park and the Deister hills. The Erlengrund is part of the Kurpark (spa park) cultural monument, the Süddeister landscape conservation area, and the Weserbergland Nature Park. The expansion of Erlengrundstraße to become Federal Highway 65 in 1932 and the construction of the A2 motorway in 1938 divided the Erlengrund into three sections. The northern section is an avenue leading from the spa park on the Galenberg hill down to the federal highway. Cecilienhöhe and its immediate surroundings form the small section south of the motorway tunnel.
