The Haus Kassel in Bad Nenndorf is one of the spa town's most historic buildings. Built between 1790 and 1791, it was named after Kassel, the former capital of the Electorate of Hesse. Originally, the house served as a lodging for guests of the burgeoning spa resort, offering 23 rooms for visitors seeking to enjoy Bad Nenndorf's healing springs and spa facilities. Today, this historic building has a new purpose: it houses the Tourist Information Center of Staatsbad Nenndorf GmbH and is also a venue for events, conferences, and civil weddings. The romantic wedding room on the ground floor is particularly popular, attracting many couples with its historic atmosphere and elegant style. With its central location on the main street, the Haus Kassel is a prominent landmark in Bad Nenndorf and a popular starting point for walks and explorations of the spa town. It charmingly combines history and the present – as a living monument that continues to play an important role in the cultural and social life of the city.

The Elector's Summer Residence With the creation of the spa park in 1787, Bad Nenndorf became a popular destination for day trips. Landgrave William IX of Hesse-Kassel recognized this potential. Just a few years after the town's development, he commissioned the construction of the Landgrave's House. It was intended to serve as his summer residence. The presence of the future Elector also attracted other prominent guests, giving the town an additional boost. Among the most famous guests, some of whom also stayed at the Landgrave's House, were renowned writers such as Goethe, Schiller, and Herder. However, the Elector was not able to enjoy the Landgrave's House for long. It was not fully completed until 1806. Only a year later, French troops marched into the town and occupied the small palace. Jérôme Bonaparte, the new King of Westphalia, became its new resident. He also introduced mud baths to the town, a spa treatment that is now widely recognized. In 1934, a fire completely destroyed the building. Fortunately, the original building plans from 1791 were still available, allowing the Landgrave's House to be reconstructed almost exactly as it had been. It stands in one of the most beautiful spots in Bad Nenndorf's spa park: the small castle – built in 1806 in the Neoclassical style. Initially, the building served as the summer residence of Landgrave Wilhelm I, the future Elector. However, just two years later, King Jérôme moved in. Napoleon's brother subsequently held many lively celebrations here – earning him the nickname "King Merry." From 1866 onward, the rooms served as lodgings for prominent spa guests. In 1891, the facade was given a triangular gable, and the romantic attic rooms disappeared. In the following years, several reading and writing rooms, a library, and a small museum were created on the ground floor. Today, the small castle can be described as a "house for special occasions": Couples can exchange vows in style in the specially furnished wedding room – and then celebrate extensively on-site. The building not only houses a café but also festive rooms that can be rented exclusively. And those who wish can spend truly special nights in the two double rooms or the suite on the upper floor – for example, after readings or classical concerts that regularly take place in the garden hall. Outside the small castle, by the way, stand two old stone bathtubs. They are relics from the 18th century – the time when bathing began in Nenndorf. Allegedly, there were once six such tubs.
