The Uchter Moor, also known as the Großes Moor, is a major raised bog area near Uchte in Lower Saxony, Germany. It covers approximately 3,263 hectares and has been a nature reserve since 2007. The area is home to rare bird species such as the nightingale, crane and curlew, making it an important habitat for nature conservation. The Uchter Moor also has a rich history of peat extraction, which began as early as the 1920s. Today, efforts are being made to restore the natural ecosystem by rewetting the central moorland areas. In addition, the Uchte-Essern Moor Railway offers a unique way to explore the area, with a 10-kilometer-long rail network offering guided tours.

A great moor. It is very impressive to visit the mining areas and the peat works. This should make you think about whether you want to "burn" the moor in your garden. It is better to buy peat-free garden soil.
