Lovely decent to Sunderland Bridge, tough grind out the other way heading to Bowburn

Croxdale Viaduct, which takes the East Coast Main Line over the River Wear near Croxdale and Sunderland Bridge, is an impressive 11-arch span built by the North Eastern Railway in 1872.

This track has recently been tarmacked from "South Hetton" to "Shotton" the restriction in the photo is not there now

Lovely community cafe behind St Catherine's Church in Fishburn. Run by local volunteers. Great place to stop for a chat and a coffee or tea.. The homemade cakes are to die for 😊 .

Great place to do a bit bird watching keep a eye out for the dipper

Approaching Durham from the direction of Sherburn you can pick up this bike path that passes through Old Durham. This route takes you down to the river Wear with fantastic views of the Cathedral from a different angle. A great place to take a short break and watch the many university rowing crews doing their thing along the river. The path is well used by pedestrians and dog walkers so just be considerate and you shouldn't have a problem.
