The Mattsand compensation lake is located at an altitude of 1,230 meters. Water from the Mattern Vispa is collected in the lake and then transported north through the 12.5-kilometer-long pressure tunnel towards Törbel and Stalden.

At the bottom of the Rhone Valley, while the river is still called Rotten here, a small pond reinforces the rural character of the place. This is the Baggilla, a pleasant place to rest after having faced the steep slopes of the surrounding mountains.

The idyllic forest ponds are surrounded by mighty pines and are a paradise for insects and amphibians. With a little luck you can watch dragonflies and frogs, the latter are noticeable by loud croaking.
