Built in the 19th century, within the complex known as the Palace and Gardens of Buen Retiro in Madrid, a recreational retreat for Spanish monarchs and the precursor to the current Retiro Park. The Artificial Mountain is part of the romantic transformation of the Retiro, a project designed by the architect Isidro González Velázquez.

The Crystal Palace and the Waterfall Pond in Retiro Park are two of Madrid's most iconic and photogenic spots, steeped in history, art, and natural beauty.

The Crystal Palace Pond is one of the most charming places in the Retiro Park in Madrid. This artificial pond was built in 1887 together with the Crystal Palace, designed by architect Ricardo Velázquez Bosco for the General Exhibition of the Philippine Islands. In its centre, there is a fountain that reaches a height of 17 metres. Around the pond, you can find swamp cypresses, whose trunks and roots are partially submerged in the water. In addition, the pond is surrounded by horse chestnuts and features an artificial waterfall and a grotto. This place is not only a point of historical and architectural interest, but also a perfect space to relax and enjoy nature in the middle of the city.

Beautiful in autumn, with very cozy corners with benches to sit on, although the background noise is from cars driving on the M-30.

There is a small viewpoint from where you can see the entire lake and you can enjoy a small waterfall.
