The 39-hectare heathland of the Pestrup burial ground contains 531 burial mounds from the late Bronze Age (900–200 BC). It is the largest burial ground in Northern Europe that is still visible. As with the megalithic tombs, the ducal government in Oldenburg also undertook conservation work here. The Ocean Bridge in Harpstedt, Lower Saxony, leads to Little America. The 99-year-old connection originated as a guesthouse, and is now popular with hikers and cyclists. Of course, this doesn't mean the United States, and "ocean" doesn't mean the Atlantic. Rather, this historic structure is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge located in the Wildeshausen Geest region of Lower Saxony. The "Ocean Bridge" is the only way to cross the Delmetal River between the Harpstedt Forest and the Harpstedt district of Little America. The Pestruper Moor is a nature reserve in the Oldenburg district. It is located southeast of the urban area of Wildeshausen, northwest of the Pestrup Gräberfeld as part of the Pestrup Gräberfeld and Rosengarten nature reserve between the K 248 and the east-flowing Hunte.

The route was really nice to cycle and I had nature all to myself 😊 The detour was worth it 👍

A good way for cyclists to cross the Hunte.

Early in the morning towards sunrise there is a great atmosphere on the Prestrupper burial ground. Then there is still light fog over the heath, when the sun has cleared it, the dew hangs in the numerous cobwebs. All crowned by the singing of the birds.

Hunte + Hunte oxbows The Hunte is a 189 km long western tributary of the Weser in Lower Saxony * rises in the Wiehen Mountains (near Osnabrück), crosses the Dümmer, flows through the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park towards Oldenburg and flows into the Weser northwest of Bremen. The Hunte is currently not yet ecologically continuous but a renaturation as has already happened with other bodies of water is being planned. In the past, the Hunte was repeatedly changed in its course, which resulted in Hunte oxbows as can be seen here.
