To the east of the Great Holy Sea is the Small Holy Sea, which is privately owned but also protected. To the southwest are the sinkhole lake and the Heideweiher pond. The sinkhole lake was formed on April 14, 1913, during the last major sinkhole in the protected area.

The Elsbach in Salzbergen is a flora-fauna habitat area (FFH) and is home to many animals and plants. Experts consider it a small sensation that the red-listed mill cob also spawns in the Elsbach. This sensitive fish can only be found in waters of quality class 1 and lives mostly in clear mountain streams, but also in the idyllic nature reserve of the Elsbach in Salzbergen. In the Hummeldorf district, the ecologically valuable stream is spanned by the successful reconstruction of the historic Elsbach bridge. The gem, which was turned into stone in 2009, reflects the charm of the original sandstone bridge built in 1845 and has become dilapidated. The bridge offers cyclists and hikers the opportunity to rest in a charming little spot on earth.
