The Goldenstedt Moor is a renaturalized raised bog. The "Haus im Moor" nature conservation and information center serves delicious cakes and buckwheat pancakes. The moor nature trail in front of it is highly recommended.

The Moorweg in the Aschener Moor, abbreviated in technical terms to Pr VI, is a prehistoric moor path that was originally 4.2 km long and runs through the Aschener Moor west of Aschen in the Diepholz district of Lower Saxony. It was probably built in the pre-Roman Iron Age around 46 BC and is one of the longest plank paths in northwest Germany.[1] The path construction has been preserved to this day due to the favorable preservation conditions for organic material in the moor. Large parts of the path have been destroyed by mechanical peat extraction up to the present day. A remnant of around 350 meters in the subsoil of an untouched moor area has been permanently preserved in the center of the moor. At the edge of the path, a 950 m long barrier-free footbridge with a viewing platform built between 2019 and 2021 runs along the course of the former moor path. It is intended to make the prehistoric moor path and the moor accessible to tourists.

The Goldenstedt Moor is a special natural heritage. In the nature conservation and information center "Haus im Moor", visitors are shown a 20-minute multivision show by nature photographer Willi Rolfes. This trailer gives you an impression of it and also invites you to visit the Goldenstedt Moor. https://vimeo.com/224676597 Natural heritage Goldenstedt Moor from Willi Rolfes on Vimeo. The approximately 640 hectare nature reserve is intended to permanently preserve the northern part of a former large raised bog complex (“Großes Moor bei Barnstorf”). Even if the current state is not yet optimal from a nature conservation perspective and peat extraction is still taking place in some parts, the areas have a high regeneration potential. The image of the area is currently largely determined by dwarf shrub, cotton grass and moor grass stages; on the edge of the moor there are also birch moor forests with moor grass and dwarf shrubs. The protected area is already the habitat of communities typical of raised bogs. Particularly noteworthy are rare and very sensitive breeding birds (e.g. nightjar, common snipe or garganey) and guest birds (e.g. crane, Bewick's swan, whooper swan or bean goose). Through protection-oriented management (e.g. by ending harmful uses and by rewetting), the value of the area for nature conservation will increase significantly in the future. The NSG serves to protect the FFH area 055 "Goldenstedter Moor". The Vechta district is responsible as the lower nature conservation authority.
