This is the northernmost point of the Schaalsee. It is a good place to take a break as there are benches and tables there. If it is warm enough you can also go swimming.

The “Eternal Pond” area is part of a hollow that is drained to varying degrees and is partly moss-covered and is sunk into the Weichselian ground moraine. Due to its former location in the inner-German border area, the area was completely inaccessible for a long time. The nature reserve offers protected habitat for a large diversity of flora and fauna, including many species of dragonflies, grasshoppers and birds, as well as a particularly pronounced diversity of vegetation. It is also a hunting ground for marsh harriers, common buzzards and white storks. The NSG "Eternal Pond" represents a connecting axis between different biotopes. The area is, so to speak, a junction between several nature reserves and thus enabled animal migration, genetic exchange between populations, as well as natural expansion and repopulation processes. https://www.schaalsee.de/schuetzen-entwickel/naturschutz/naturschutzräume/ewiger-teich

There are not so many lake accesses on the east bank of the Röggeliner See ... here there is one that is also close to the road and offers beautiful views of the lake.

20 m from the county road there is a very nice view over the lake. Not only in spring and autumn there are a lot of water birds, swans, grebes, ducks, wild geese and many other water birds can always be found here. Many other birds, including larger birds of prey, also nest in the trees on the bank. It's nice.

Here you actually have a relatively good view. In order to see the animals exactly, you should definitely have binoculars with you. It is also interesting that there is an observation tower right here on the border strip. Maybe a reason to talk if you want to talk about history with children or young people.

It's quieter here than in Zarrentin and Seedorf. Cozy and easy to get to.

There is not much to see here, but the hikers' parking lot, at least the one that you can drive to, is a good starting point for the path along the Schaalsee.

The Dutzower See is part of the Schaalsee and forms the northern bay. The nature reserve Niendorfer-Bernstorfer Binnensee is a 567 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania east of Kittlitz (Schleswig-Holstein). The area is divided from north to south into the Dutzower See, the forest area Dohlen and the Bernstorfer Binnensee with the islands of Großer and Kleiner Werder. The protection goal is to maintain a lake with little disruption with adjacent bank areas and moored swamp forests. The nature reserve is located in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naturschutzgebiet_Niendorfer-Bernstorfer_Binnensee

If you come from the lake, there is a short but steep climb up here. You need a run-up and power. The ruins of the Slavic castle lie on a natural spur on the "Dutzower See". The castle was once well protected on all sides by open water and swampy terrain. The ramparts have unfortunately been severely demolished over time and are now only 2.6 m high. The castle is now 53 by 73 m. Most of the pottery shards from the 10th and 11th centuries were found in the southern part of the Slavic complex. The entrance was also located here in the form of a wooden bridge or a boardwalk. During an excavation in 1960 on the opposite peninsula in the lake, pottery was also found that is very similar to that in the castle. It is therefore believed that there was a settlement here that belonged to the castle. Perhaps a bridge at a narrow part of the lake led to the ring castle. The peninsula with the settlement is today in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the castle wall of Kittlitz in Schleswig-Holstein. After the Christianization of the area, the village of Kneese was created 1.5 km further southeast in the 12th and 13th. Century. It is believed that this village emerged from the former Slavic settlement and castle after the older facilities had to be abandoned. www.slawenburgen.hpage.com/schleswig-holstein.html

The lake is part of the Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve and the NSG Kuhlrader Moor and Röggeliner See. The water is crystal clear and suddenly invites you to hop in.
