Groß Quassow is one of the oldest villages in this area and was first mentioned in a document in 1346 as the property of the Stolp monastery. It later belonged to the Strelitz office, but then became the personal possession of Duchess Eleonore Maria. In July 2012, the community celebrated the 666th anniversary of its first documented mention. The village is rather off the main roads and is accordingly not intrusive. But that's also the attraction.

The stork's nest is on the barn of a BUND base. So there's still a lot of information here, it's worth it

The lake has a bathing area on the south-east shore in Menz. Beautifully quiet in the morning. A hiking trail leads around the lake close to the edge of the water.

Apparently, storks breed quite successfully near Gross Quassow. This is documented at the barn door.

A beautiful shore path leads around the Roofensee. Length: about 8km

Storks have nested here for around 80 years. Information boards on site give an overview of the storks in Groß-Quassow, including the number in recent years and "departure times".
