The Finow is not a swampy river and does not come from the Hellmühler river. The Finow begins as the outflow of the Regensee west of Biesenthal, is approx. 13.7 km long and flows into the Finow Canal west of Finowfurth. It is the remnant of what used to be a 45 km long left tributary of the Oder. From Finowfurth it was expanded into the Finow Canal.
