Altenstein Castle is located just a few kilometers from Thuringia's oldest health resort, Bad Liebenstein. Built in neo-renaissance style, it once served as a summer residence for the dukes of Saxe-Meiningen. The castle is surrounded by a picturesque landscape park with a Chinese house, ornate carpet beds and vantage points of the Werra valley. None other than Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau was involved in the design of the park.
