In summer it's a wonderful place to cool down a bit in the heat. The "zigzag path" up the hill south of the stream is beautifully decorated with small animal figures.

Really a beautiful spot on the bike path in the romantic Eisbachtal.

The lightning tubes are a natural monument in the form of a mineralogical phenomenon in the sandstone wall below the Battenberg castle ruins. There is a shelter at the Hirtenfels. From there you have a great view of the surroundings and the Palatinate Forest. Right next to it is the Kosakenfels.

Absolute recommendation. I saw the flash tubes on ZDF's Terra X. So I wanted to hike and see them myself. Amazing what mother nature creates. ❤️

The Hirtenfels with its 630m above sea level is well integrated into a beautiful hiking tour from Dannenfels over the Adlerbogen and Ludwigsturm. From the summit of the Hirtenfels you have a wonderful view of the Palatinate.

Behind the Südzucker factory Offstein, beautiful footpaths and bike paths with lots of benches to take a break 🚴🏼‍♀️👍

I liked this explanation from the Pfalzmuseum für Naturkunde in DÜW (according to the information board on site) best for this phenomenon: "Water that had dissolved iron-containing substances penetrated the layers of sand. The iron that was carried along was excreted in shells (concentrically) and transformed the loose sand in the area of the deposit into solid sandstone, which can contain up to 30% iron."
