From the Mittagsfels, a wide, uninterrupted view opens up over the Steinalb Valley, the surrounding forests, and hills – a real insider tip for panorama enthusiasts off the beaten track. Tip: Be sure to have your camera ready! Especially in the morning, visibility is clear here – perfect for a peaceful nature experience with a view.

A simple wooden bench – yet a magical place. Those who sit here gaze out over the Glan Valley and feel time briefly stand still. 💡 Tip: Especially in the winter light or evening haze, a quiet beauty unfolds here that lingers long after.

The rocky outcrop seems to have fallen out of time. Moss covers the ground, the Glan Valley lies shrouded in mist below – above, only wind and vastness. 💡 Tip: If you linger here in silence, you'll experience how powerful nature can be without words. Please pay attention to the path – it's a steep descent, with no safety barriers!

Here at Mittagsfelsen, the pasque flower grows in March/April. The equally common name, "Küchenschelle" (Pasque flower), refers to the diminutive of dairy cattle and has nothing to do with cooking. Incidentally, the buttercup plant, with the Latin name Pulsatilla vulgaris, is poisonous. Attempts to dig up this plant, which is on the Red List of Threatened Plants, and establish it in one's garden are not only prohibited, but also unsuccessful. The pasque flower only grows on fine-grained, volcanic rock, andesite, in a fully southerly exposure. In the Kusel district, it is only known at Mittagsfelsen. Middaysfelsen is a nature reserve at an elevation of 220 to 350 meters. It is home to rare flora and fauna. The fine-grained volcanic rock rises behind the cemetery, where it slopes steeply upwards to the small and large slabs. The rocky biotope is home to a variety of species that depend on high levels of solar radiation. These include ground beetles, grasshoppers, and rare butterfly species. Endangered rock-nesting birds such as the eagle owl and peregrine falcon also find their habitat there. Hikers can explore the Mittagsfels on the 35-kilometer Veldenz hiking trail from Lichtenberg Castle to Aschbach. Source: Die Rheinpfalz
