옛 글란탈 철도 노선

하이라이트 • 자전거 도로

The Glantalbahn is a non-electrified and now largely disused railway line that runs largely in Rhineland-Palatinate and to a small extent in Saarland, mainly along the river Glan. It was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, primarily for strategic reasons. The Glan-Münchweiler - Altenglan section was built in 1868 as part of the Landstuhl - Kusel railway line. In 1896 and 1897, the Lauterecken - Odernheim - Staudernheim section followed, initially as a continuation of the Lautertalbahn opened in 1883. The other sections Homburg - Glan-Münchweiler, Altenglan - Lauterecken and Odernheim - Bad Münster were opened in 1904. In Odernheim, the railway line split into the branch to Staudernheim, which had existed since 1897, and the branch to Bad Münster.

Due to the sparse population in the region, traffic was rather low except during the two world wars, when the route was of strategic importance. After the Second World War, the second track was gradually dismantled. From 1961 to 1986, passenger traffic was discontinued on large parts of the railway line. Since 1996, the line has been closed with the exception of the Glan-Münchweiler - Altenglan section, which is part of the connection from Landstuhl to Kusel. The Glantalbahn has been dismantled between Waldmohr and Glan-Münchweiler and between Odernheim and Bad Münster. Since the beginning of 2000, a draisine rental company has been offering draisines for self-drivers on the Altenglan - Staudernheim section.

If you deviate 20 meters from the route, you stand on the Glanbrücke and have a wonderful view of the Erdesbacher weir.

Agate mining in the Freisen and Oberkirchen area was first documented in the 14th century. The banded chalcedony was initially sold to agate cutters in Freiburg and Venice, before their own loops were made in Idar and Oberstein (documented from 1520). According to a document from 1853, "the agate stone-rich Freisen and Oberkirchen were the main places where the agate loops get the raw stones". Agates were collected in fields or broken from the rock. Not only on Weiselberg, where pingen and tunnels are still in today Terrain are visible, agate mining is historically documented in Freisen. Poverty in the early 19th century drove many into emigration. Oberkirchen emigrants discovered Brazilian agates, which they had delivered to their old homeland from 1834. The Idar-Oberstein grinding industry experienced an economic one Soon the number of water loops had increased from 31 in 1827 to over 150 in 1867. Since deliveries from Brazil did not always work smoothly, farmers and craftsmen found work and bread again in local agate mining Agate diggers not rich, but helped them through times of dire need When the rough stones from overseas became more reliable around 1870, the 500-year-old mining in Oberkirchen and Freisen ended. The main mining period in the Becker am Hellerberg quarry was closely linked to the construction of the motorway (A62), which reached the Freisen area in 1972. At the end of construction in 1981, the quarry also closed. The last blast was in 1980. In the quarry, several lava flows are exposed, which are separated by almond stone zones and volcanic loose masses. In the bladder cavities of the almond stone structure, duct agates and drusen with zeolite and goethite, smoky quartz and amethyst have developed. To this day, mineral collectors from near and far are looking for the stone treasures. During the construction of the motorway in the 1970s, the entire range of great agates and druses was found in Freisen. Even after that, every major construction site lured stone seekers out. In addition to a few other localities, they found what they were looking for on Füsselberg and Freisener Höhe. Source: Text information board

Achatweg의 바살트 로즈(안데사이트 구체)

하이라이트 • 자연 기념물

𝑾𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒌 𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑬𝒓𝒅𝒈𝒆𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒕𝒆 - 𝑲𝒖𝒈𝒆𝒍 𝒎𝒊𝒕 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒃𝒂𝒖

Like a broken sphere made of concentric shells, a strange phenomenon has developed in the andesite rock of the Hellerberg. On the "Achatweg" in the quarry walls further outcrops with similar semicircular shapes can be discovered, although none is as impressive to look at as this one. The shape popularly known as the "Basalt Rose" raises questions, especially one. How did it come about? A special process of desquamation, which can occur in igneous rocks when the pressure is released, must first be considered as the cause of the phenomenon: the so-called exfoliation. Pressure relief occurs, for example, when the rock masses lying on top of it are removed by erosion or valley formation and the previously compressed rock underneath is freed from the load or the lateral pressure. This causes the exposed rock to expand somewhat, in the direction of the decreasing pressure. Fissures and fissures form parallel to the surface of the land, creating an onion skin-like appearance. Transverse stresses create additional cracks. Weathering can then model the shell formation even more concisely. Source: Text information board

𝐿𝑎𝑣𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑚, 𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑁𝑒𝑏𝑒𝑛𝑘𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟?

It is questionable whether the phenomenon can already be adequately explained by the pressure relief. As is so often the case in nature, different processes overlap here too. It is obvious, especially in the case of an old volcanic landscape like the Hellerberg, that stress cracks were created while a flowing body of igneous melt was cooling, which later led to a platy-shelled secretion under pressure changes. The shape cut in the outcrop could originally have emerged from a small lava flow or an underground melt, an intrusion, perhaps also from a volcanic secondary crater. Source: Text information board

켈트족 고분 (할슈타트 시대)

하이라이트 • 역사적 장소

A barrow or burial mound (Latin tumulus, plural tumuli; Greek τύμβος tymbos) is an elongated, round or oval pile of earth. Inside there are tombs or other prehistoric monuments. The graves can be body burials (possibly in a tree coffin), urn graves or scattered corpse burns. The mounds can have built-in components, e.g. B. from concentric circles, buildings (burial mounds of Trappendal), stone burial chambers or stone boxes.

Great rock formations. However, I wouldn't go too close, as rocks can still break off and fall down.

⚰️ A silent witness to the past: This moss-covered burial mound dates back to around 400 BC – presumably of Celtic origin. The small plaque seems almost inconspicuous, but if you look closely, you'll sense the specialness of this place. Mystical. Timeless. Touching. 📍 Tip: 🪨 Slow down a few steps here – this place has more depth than meets the eye.

📍 Agate Trail Freisen Right on the edge of the quarry stands a simple bench – overlooking what was once an active mining site. Today, silence reigns here. The contrast between the rugged rock faces and the tranquility of the moment makes this place special. Ideal for a short rest – with a panoramic view of space and time. 💡 Tip: A beautiful spot for a second breakfast, a deep photo, or simply for reflection. Those who sit here tend to stay a little longer.
